Important
Important
This is where I will do my best to have important references for everyday life. Too often we go chasing around for things online and never bother to put them in one place.
Thoughts on Artificial Intelligence and how we perceive the world. As I have mentioned in the past elsewhere, I had a great epiphany after moving to a new city and making all new friends. Being the "new guy" in town, people were quick to inform me of other groups of people in town and what to expect or to avoid altogether. They had collected thier own perceptions of people based on their experiences with them over time and made judgements from just those interactions.
I remember on one distinctly crazy issue with my neighbors warning me of people I had been hanging out with, that they were drug dealers and addicts. At first I thought I had just been naive and not noticed. I can just be upfront at times when I am attempting to understand someone new. I learned that the reality was this had been a long standing gossip from someone that had a beef with several in the group. After spending more time with them, I found them to be the opposite, seriously health conscious and very thoughful group of people. It seemed my neighbors were upset because their gossip drew others away from themselves due to their false narratives.
Over time I learned the scope of this was far greater. I learned to listen to what people would say about others. But to always make my own judgements myself from experience. There are times where people have issues with others that have little to do with any other social interactions or true facts in reality.
It's forgiving, but not forgetting that is important. Living a life of cutting people out of your life or accepting or creating false narratives about others not only harms them, but likely will harm you more in the long run.
This is the danger of AI and the scope of human realities. AI scoops up our online interactions and perceptions as facts that have little merit in reality of our lives. When much of it can be false narratives that drive to lonely paths.
Once I understood my ideas of others were false, I was able to walk in any group of people and I had absolutely incredible experiences, invited to parties and events, participated in sports that I would have not been considered for in the past and my contact list was beyond full. This is astonishing for someone like me that bills themselves a bit of an introvert at times. My other lesson learned was you cannot really go back. Once I returned to my home town, the ground work of perceptions were already laid and cemented for many. The false narrative about me was not something I had control or for me to work on. All I could do is focusing on how I dealt with the realities and interactions in the moment. So, I then made new friends, attempted to keep my old friends and worked on enjoying my life choices, rather than be driven through it. Those friends I made then, still keep in contact with me today after decades and I appreciate them so much.
And I do my best to keep AI from tracking who it perceives me to be. Are we clear on this Gemini AI?
